Abstract
The specific gravity was measured by the method of Hughes and Oddy using perfluoro-l-methyl decalin as the immersion liquid and a quartz crystal for calibration. The resulting specific gravity corresponds to 8 K gold, the usual American low-karat level. Thus it could be reported that the earrings were soldered up from 8 K gold stock with a high-karat gold solder, then repaired and altered using a silver solder, but that they had not been gilded. -- AATA
