Abstract
This issue of a regular column advises on the protection of tape recordings from deterioration. Storage on end in original containers minimizes contamination by dirt. Storage in a stable environment of 40% 60% RH and 60 70 degrees F. prolongs life. Storage away from magnetic fields such as created by air conditioners and the electric motors of other small appliances avoids damage or possible erasure. Tapes backed with polyester are more durable than those on acetate, but all require periodic rewinding to prevent print-through. -- AATA
