Abstract

Twenty-one of 24 alkynyl esters of mandelic acid had average repellency ratings that equalled or exceeded that of the standard, pyrethrins + piperonyl butoxide in tests against the adult confused flour beetle, Tribolium confusum Jacqueline duVal. The 2-alkynyl esters were particularly effective; 2-pentynl, and 2-nonynyl mandelate averaged over 80% repellency for the 2 month test period.
