Abstract
The identification of dyestuffs used on ancient fabrics was studied, focusing on red dyestuffs and metallic elements in woven fabrics from the Greco-Roman period, excavated at Akoris in middle Egypt. The dyestuffs were extracted from the fabrics using methanol and formic acid, and identified with ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy, high performance liquid chromatography, and a LC/MS SIM method. A qualitative study of inorganic components in the fabrics was done using energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometry.
