Abstract
The presence of albumen in paint samples can be determined by the process of two-way immunodiffusion. The technique results in the formation of antigen-antibody precipitates from the sample (antigen) and a serum (antibody). Egg white, egg yolk, and whole egg binders were examined. Fresh and artificially-aged samples were prepared. The serum against egg white did not yield precipitates with yolk. Anti-yolk sera did not yield precipitates with eggwhite. Further confirmation of these results will permit differentiation among egg temperas and the identification of egg white varnishes.
