Abstract
The Underwood & Underwood Glass Stereograph Collection (ca. 1895 - 1920) was stored at the Smithsonians warehouse complex from 1966 to 1983, when the collection was transferred to the Museum's new Archive Center. At that time, asbestos fibers were discovered on the plates in addition to normal dust and grime. This paper describes how the asbestos problem with this collection was ameliorated so that the more important work of photographic conservation could begin.
