A method for the preservation of aged paper by the use of alkoxysilanes is introduced. Alkoxysilanes are easily applied to the paper but their curing requires several hours. Bursting and tensile strength of treated paper showed satisfactory improvement, whereas its elongation decreased. Treated paper exhibits high hydrophobicity and a remarkable light stability-both properties contributing to its preservation.
