Abstract
The influence of refractive index and viscosity grade on the color rendering effect of picture varnishes was investigated. The results led to the synthetis of an acrylic copolymer of phenyl acrylate and methylmethacrylate (30/70) with a high refractive index and a low viscosity grade. The physical properties and and the aging behavior indicate that it is worthwile to consider the resin as a promising base for a new picture varnish, although further research is still necessary.
