The conservation of documents in Spain is discussed with focus upon the work that has been done since the beginning of the 10th century at the Central Library in Barcelona and the National Library in Madrid. In September of 1969, an official decree established the National Center for the Restoration of Books and Documents to be responsible for scientific examination, restoration, and preservation; a description of the Center's organization, its training program, and current conservation practices is included.
