Abstract
Basic recommendations for the care of photographs introduce a broadrange bibliography intended to give a survey of the more important books and articles relating to the conservation and restoration of photographs. Related information drawn from paper conservation is mentioned, particularly in the areas of storage and display. Proper matting materials and techniques, storage boxes and cabinets are discussed, as well as important aspects of environmental control, framing, and preparation of photographs for display. The Basic Bibliography covers areas of Photographic Science; Storage, Handling, Preservation, Conservation; Restoration Processes for Photographs, Restoration Processes for Paper and Books; Matting, Framing, and Adhesives; Lighting; Temperature, Humidity, and Air Quality; Packing and Shipping. This is followed by a list of Basic Suppliers, including sources for general supplies, mounting board and special papers, archival supplies for photography, storage containers for prints and negatives, bookbinding tapes for mats, special restoration supplies, Plexiglass and lighting filters, mounting presses and mounting tissues, chemicals for restoration, and tools for measuring temperature/humidity.
