In this study, an attempt was made to reveal the processes of manufacture of three iron objects coming from sites in Senegal. These analyses, based essentially on metallographic analyses, have shown an evident correlation between the intended use of the object, and the processes of manufacture selected for its making. This result shows the importance of structural metallography in the functional interpretation of metallic remains.
