In southeast Laconia, Maleas peninsula of the Peloponnesos, several ancient metallurgical and mining finds related to iron production are studied. Some of them have been reported in the past, but for most of them this is the first reference. Field prospection refers to two idle iron mines, five sites of iron slags, and three ore occurrences in this area. The first results from the preliminary geological, metallurgical, and chemical studies indicate a correlation between the finds and existing history as well as archaeological knowledge about the Laconians.
