Deals with natural and artificial aging experiments conducted by means of a deterioration chamber to measure the effect of air pollution (sulfur dioxide) on leather bookbindings tanned by various methods. The chamber and the experiment undertaken are described and evaluated by chemical analysis and differential scanning colorimetry (DSC). This may be a useful tool for testing preservation treatments.
