The problems associated with the deterioration of mammalian natural history mounts are numerous. Several possible causes have been identified, some of which relate to the initial condition of the skin and the original preservation treatment used. Five common preservation treatments were used in an accelerated aging experiment to determine the initial and long-term effects that the treatments have upon the skin.
