This project has had three major components: 1) developing rigorously explicit terminology and criteria for identification and description of pottery forming and finishing processes; 2) case studies to investigate the development and significance of the potter's wheel in the ancient Near East; and 3) assessing the reconstructed organization of pottery production and relative importance of the potter's wheel within broader socio-economic developments.
