Abstract
This second part on the problems of large gardens (see AATA 25-1496 for the first part) discusses what are the alternatives to private ownership and what they can and cannot achieve in view of their preservation. Partially palliative governmental measures or the setting up of charitable trusts have limited effects which are analyzed; at the time of this writing most garden owners were struggling on unaided, some gardens were being maintained by the commercial, educational, or political bodies that had come to occupy a main building on the grounds, and the author concluded that the future for many large gardens in private ownership appeared bleak. -- AATA
