Abstract
25 years ago, the Library of Congress began its search for a treatment for removing acid from books. It has since concentrated its efforts on diethyl zinc vapor (DEZ) neutralization of the acid. Sun discusses the Library of Congress-National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) collaboration which ended in failure in 1986 and the Library of Congress' plans to work with the chemical industry on DEZ treatment of brittle books. -- AATA
