The karibari is a light composite panel used by japanese craftsmen for flattening paper and silk objects. The construction of the kanto (tokyo) region's drying board is described in detail with drawings and photographs illustrating all stages of the work. The Japanese drying board has a lightweight wooden lattice cure and is covered with up to seven layers of paper with wheat starch paste as adhesive. The board is then water proofed with shibu (fermented juice of persimmon).
