Abstract
After cleaning in 1971 the painting of the Madonna in the Rosary by Gert van Lon, had been so tightly fitted into its frame that it could not move in response to changes in relative humidity. This and the way the panel had been constructed led to the separation of paint layers along the joints, splitting and flacking. Flaking paint was fixed with gelatine adhesive and losses infilled. Tempera was used for retouching and Laropal K80 stippled into these areas. The painting was reframed to avoid any construction of the panel. Infrared reflectograms show the artist's underdrawing (two details), photograph, 13 notes
