Data from the examination of a self portrait by Godfried Schalcken is presented. Although the painting is unlined and probably unaltered by restorations the pictorial quality is not matched by the materials or the construction of the support. Deterioration is described especially of the paint layer; the blue background and red drapery has lightened. Restoration is briefly outlined. Photographs, 3 notes references.
