Abstract
Describes the preliminary examination restoration and cleaning technical examination and painting technique of a poplar wood panel painting, The Hunt in the Forest by Paolo Uccello. The 15th century panel is not thinned flattened, cradled, reinforced or overpainted. A detailed discussion is given of Uccello's painting technique and it is concluded that it is consistent with the materials and procedures of the period. Illustrations include x-radiograph, ultraviolet fluorescence photograph, raking light photograph, infrared reflectographs. Black and white photographs. 16 notes and references.
