Abstract
The painting is a small version of a painting in the sacristy of Toledo Cathedral. The support made of three vertical panels is said to be pine. Two later additions to this are attached on right and left edges. Examination of the panel using x-radiography and infrared reflectography showed several old splits, repairs and underdrawings. Restoration included removal of surface dirt and the upper layers of discoloured varnish (no details of solvents). Detailed discussion of information obtained during removal of overpaints, and comments on El Greco's technique. Photographs, 8 notes, references.
