Abstract
The author presents the technical data amassed during an examination of the paint surface, x-radiography, and analysis of paint samples, and discusses Canaletto's painting technique -- incision of lines into the ground, scoring of lines into the wet paint, use of impasto to create decorative details, application of figures over background.
