Abstract
A description of the examination of the portrait of Rembrandt in a flat cap is given. The curious behaviour of the paint layers on cleaning led to detailed investigations and the conclusions that the painting is neither from rembrandt nor from his studio. An x-radiograph and a infrared reflectograph show a third eye, a raking light show the brushwork, 6 colour paint cross sections.
