Abstract

This paper examines some of the structural and chemical components found in ochres, pigments commonly used in ethnographic bark paintings and wooden objects. These pigments are known to become friable with use and age. Detailed information is provided on the successfull use of Paraloid B72 and Beva 371 to consolidate friable ochre.
