Abstract
Hiko is a red dye used in the Nagaita Chugata dyeing technique for dyeing the deep blue informal kimono, Yukata. Hiko, called Korarin in Japanese, is not available these days. From the fact that p-rosolic acid is also called corallin or aurin, the author compared p-rosolic acid in chemical and physical nature with Hiko and found that the former is insoluble but the latter is soluble in water. She further found that p-rosolic acid can be made soluble in water with sodium hydroxide to form sodium-rosolate which is considered to be Hiko.
