Abstract
Chemical spot tests and UV examination of foxed paper and cotton suggests that the prime cause of foxing is biological, the organisms being narrowly restricted in physical requirements for growth, growing slowly at 75% RH on pure cellulose with glue present, and hence not easily isolated by normal laboratory methods.
