Abstract
The results of this investigation yield insights that are of practical significance for those who would employ tetraethoxysilane in stone conservation. In the absence of catalysts, the polymerization is too slow to be of any practical field use. The reaction mechanism is a complex function of the relative proportions of water and silane.
