Tested: B-72 (poly ethyl methacrylate); B-67 (poly isobutyl methacrylate); PLASTIC-70 (poly methyl methacrylate - poly butyl methacrylate copolymer); FRIGILENE (cellulose nitrate) and ZAPON (cellulose nitrate). Lacquers were applied to various strips of silver and silvered copper. Accelerated aging was done through light exposure and cycling of temperature and relative humidity. Conclusions: methacrylate based lacquers are better removed with acetone. Steam cleaning provided a more satisfactory method for removal of cellulose nitrate lacquers. With steam cleaning care should be taken not to raise the pressure too high (1- 2.5 bar); otherwise a mat spot can be created due to surface erosion.
