Abstract
The authors measured the fluorescence spectra of oil colors subjected to pulsed laser excitation by using an N<sub>2</sub> laser (lambda = 337.1 nm, pulse duration = 5 ns.). The fluorescence spectra observed were different in their shapes, peak wave lengths, and peak intensities for different pigments, and can be used to identify pigments in oil paintings. This is a non-destructive method and can be applied to pigments as well as dyestuffs.
