Abstract
Sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere is the most common source of acidity. A series of tests were done with colored test slips on the atmosphere in archives repositories in many parts of the world. The results confirm that boxing and packaging provide a high measure of protection to archival materials. The test papers can be used as indicators of the degree of pollution by sulfur dioxide in the rooms of the repository. The tests should be carried out often to guard against changing atmosphere.
