Abstract
The United States has focused upon environmental conservation issues earlier than Great Britain because the landscape changes so rapidly in the States. Use of the past is turned towards the interest of the future. What is to be preserved is determined by what people choose to remember, generally reflecting the values or concerns of a particular interest group. Historical preservation movements have originated as community-oriented groups. Historical preservation has taken upon itself an educational or persuasive function.
