Abstract
The application of canonical variates analysis to experimentally produced biface reduction sequences and subsequent analysis of archaeological flint debitage indicate that most of the Boxgrove material was knapped with a bone or antler percussor, used after minimal nodule preparation. Both advance planning and curatorial behavior were suggested. Other analyses suggested that it is possible to distinguish between debitage produced by a soft-stone hammer and a bone or antler hammer.
