Abstract
A heavily damaged Hakama (a man's divided skirt) of the Edo period was studied. The weft yarn of cotton is more seriously damaged compared with the warp yarn of silk. Dyestuffs indigo, berberine and brasilin were found, but the black dyeing substance was not identified. -- AATA
