The Large Berlin Cabinet Cupboard constructed by David Roentgen (1773-1807) at about 1779/80 was seriously damaged during the Second World War. It took more than two years of hard work to restore clock, clock-works, locks, bronzes, and thirty secret drawers and mechanisms besides the damaged woodwork. All metal parts are of high quality in design and execution. They represent the culminating point of development for this kind of work. When the restoration work began, the empirical constructional work had to be reassessed, missing parts in the original composition had to be found, and, if possible, the same working technique had to be applied. The cupboard has found its permanent place of exhibition in the Kunstgewerbemuseum of Köpenick. -- AATA
