Interpretive figures, arranged in attitudes of arrested motion, enhance period rooms and exhibit areas in historical museums. Age, posture, and relative position of each figure must be determined in advance. The actual construction of a papier-mâché figure is described in detail: forming the torso, limbs and head; painting; and assembly. Costume must be cut to be put on because joints are fixed.
