Mineral pigments and their possible use in India for painting material are reviewed and discussed, on the basis of actual analyses and literary sources. Further study of the identification of pigments used in various regions and periods, wall paintings, fabric paintings, miniature paintings, wooden panels, etc., is recommended in addition to testing of natural pigments for their durability and comparability with modern synthetic pigments.
