Abstract
Molakana is plural for mola, the traditional blouse of the Kuna in Panama. The blouse is decorated with quilt-like applications, which are also known as molakana. The origin of the mola is body painting. When the Kuna began to sew clothing from cotton, they simply transferred these designs. Molakana date to about 100 years ago, and they are still a very important part of the Kuna's daily lives and routines.
