Abstract
Petrographic examination demonstrated the presence in some amphorae of pyrite altered into hematite, often associated with calcareous microorganisms. The isolated pyritic accumulations appear to offer evidence for fossil foraminifera destroyed by heating, a fact which may assist identification of source material.
