Abstract
The Codex Hammer, formerly known as the Codex Leicester, is a treatise by Leonardo da Vinci on the nature, weight and motion of water. The Codex has been transformed from a bound manuscript to single sheets mounted for display and travel. Topics include the removal of the Codex from the 17th century binding, examination and treatment, encapsulation, mounting in double-sided matts, packing and installation procedures. The unique encapsulation enables the sheets to be viewed from both sides and offers the drawings the highest degree of security while traveling. The results of testing and experiments on the encapsulation technique as well as modifications are also discussed.
