A laboratory-scale method for the determination of the fibre content of flax straw is described. Values for percent total fibre, which were found to remain constant over the latter stages of growth, were correlated with the percent yield of scutched fibre obtained from crops processed by tank retting. The method may be used to predict the percent scutched fibre yield of crops before harvesting.
