Abstract
The successful autoradiographic examination of a painting requires that the painting be activated with an adequate thermal neutron fluence. Gamma spectroscopy is to measure quantitatively the contents of different materials in the painting and the autoradiography is to reveal the relative spatial concentrations of those materials. A Russian Icon painting panel painted on both sides, and a painting by Thomas W. Dewing were analyzed.
