Abstract
The following discrepancies in analyses of the Hitler diaries helped to establish them as a hoax: 1) The whiteness of the paper under ultraviolet light indicated a derivative of stilbene which was not used until the mid-1950s; 2) The presence of polyvinyl pyrrolidene, a post-World War II component of adhesives; and, 3) The presence of nylon 6 fibers which weren't used prior to 1955. The results of the ink analysis were not available at that time.
