Abstract
This article contains formulae perfected in the chemical lab of the Hawaiian Sugar Planters' Association which are designed for the following uses for fumigating books: 1) lacquer, applied to cloth bindings; 2) liquid repellent, painted over the hinges and end-papers, over the top, bottom and turning edges when the book is closed, and dripped down the binding edge behind the spine; 3) wax, to be rubbed over leather bindings; and, 4) impregnated cloth, to be rubbed over mildewed surfaces. All four should be applied after fumigation and have a residual, preventative effect.
