The works of artists Nancy Edell, Arlyn Ende, and Gloria Crouse are examined. The history and evolution of creative rug hooking is considered. Few contemporary artists make rug hooking their primary focus. Nancy Edell, an art teacher at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, translates images from drawings into rugs. Arlyn Ende, a former designer of large-scale textiles for corporate clients, makes functional rugs in Tennessee. Gloria Crouse, a West Coast rug hooker, has recently published a book and video called <i>Rug Hooking: New Materials, New Techniques</i>.
