Contemporary fiber artists inspired by the art of Oriental carpets are surveyed. These artists are using materials, color, techniques, spatial organization, form, or motifs derived from this ancient tradition. Their work, however, often departs from the tradition and is distinctly modern. In <i>Life Pattern</i>, Donna Martin works with wool and mohair that has been dyed with vegetable dyes, but she uses a tapestry technique and juxtaposes traditional motifs.
