Young Ha Ryu is a Korean fiber artist whose work reflects the influences of densely populated urban environments. She prints and superimposes images on fabric, which forms a base for subsequent layers of the fiber collage. In one of her pieces, glued rice paper has been applied at varying densities to achieve a sense of depth in the images. A mesh, irregularly woven with black mercerized cotton and man-made threads, forms the next layer. Finally, the piece has been overstitched with metallic threads to create luminescence.
