Abstract
The photodegradation of polyamide fibers used in automotive interior trim is discussed. Lightfastness improvers, Cibafast N, and ultaviolet improvers for polyamide fibers are explained. Examples demonstrate that the use of light stabilizers during the dyeing process can visibly improve fiber stability and lightfastness for all shades. Stabilized polyamide yarns and carpets show a remarkable slowing of the aging process. The way that lightfastness improvers and ultraviolet absorbers intervene in the photochemical degradation of polyamide is explained.
