Abstract
Sewing threads must be strong, smooth, and able to withstand the sudden strains and tensions imposed upon them during the stitching of seams. Although the controversy continues over the use of monofilament or multifilament sewing threads, most end-use manufacturers agree that the most important decision involves choosing the right thread for a particular end product. Guetermann's Skala 65/1 multifilament polyester thread, which can have as many as 30 continuous filaments twisted together, is exceptionally strong; a finer thread count can be used than with a spun thread. Although Guetermann's M range of long staple fiber threads are stronger and smoother than short staple fiber threads, they are weaker (count for count) than multifilament threads.
