Abstract
A variety of strategies for creating color combinations are described. Color swatches should be selected in a material similar in texture and light reflectance to the textile material that will be used. The environment in which a textile will be viewed influences color combination choices. Starting with the background color is a good way to begin color selection. Value contrast, hue contrast, and intensity contrast are defined. Providing a touch of the unexpected is sometimes a good color strategy.
